Sterling Silver & Copper Stag Torc  (necklace)
.

This commission was a challenge because I have never made a torc, (circlet), with anything but wrapped ends and I don't have a full casting setup so I had to learn to use a sand casting system that I have had for a while but was having no luck using.
.
This customer was as excited about the piece as I was so I made sure to show her it's progress, in case she needed any changes along the way.  The whole  process was done via e-mail and phone so all she had to go by was my word and photos.  She wanted this torc to be a gift for her boyfriend and to have it either by their anniversary or his birthday,  May 2nd or June 26th.  She got it just in time for the earlier date!

Here's the basic stag shape that I finally got, after getting used to the sand casting technique;

The picture on the right was modified so the customer could see what the piece
would look like after I brought the detail out a bit and evened out the rack.

Here's another view of the same piece.  This was just a sample, the final stags
would be cleaner with less porosity and more detail.

This is what the customer had to say after seeing these photos;
"Shannon, I saw the pics and I'm very happy with them."

These photos show the final product.  The customer had this to say after receiving the torc;
"[My boyfriend] loved the torc.  Thank you so much."
.
.
I am thankful to this customer for her patience during the process and for making me try something that I didn't think I could do.  Because of her, and this piece, I have learned how to use my sand casting kit and have made something new to me.
