Most clients, when they contact me for custom
work, have a general idea of what they'd like to have made. Some
have a little bit more specific but this was the most specific request
that I have gotten; 6 pairs of 3mm Rainbow Moonstone cabochon, Sterling
Silver, stud earrings.
.
The lady requesting them already had a pair that she
liked and had 7 pairs of holes in her ears so she asked me to make some
to match. We searched for many hours for 3mm Rainbow
Moonstones. We could find Moonstones but she was set on Rainbow
Moonstones for their blue flash, and I can't blame her, they are beautiful
stones.
.
I finally found a supplier in Thailand that had 3.5mm
stones. We decided to go with it, since she had also been looking
for a year or so and couldn't find anything either. (The shipping
cost more than the stones! LOL). The only problem with cabochons
that are imported, many times, is that they are not calibrated so they
may be 3.25mm's or 3.75mm's and they'll just throw them in with the 3.5mm's.
It doesn't seem like a big difference but the customer wanted a clean,
low profiled design so we went with bezel cups, that don't come in 3.5mm,
only 3mm or 4mm! So, I chose the lowest stones with the nicest flash,
(I ordered more than she needed so I could pick and choose), and I proceeded
to set me and hammer the bezel to fit. It was a real pain and very
time consuming but we think it was worth it. I sent her the pictures
before sending them out. She liked the pics so off the earrings went
to their new home.

The angled images were to show her how low the
settings were as she requested,
and the right image was to who the nice blue
flash that they had.

Here's what my client had to
say about the earrings, once she received them;
.
"I
got them today!!! They look just like the pics you sent. :-)
I am very happy with them
and am wearing them now.
I will definitely keep you in mind for future things. I am always
up to something.
Thanks again-"
